How To Be A Successful Foreign Reactor To Indian Audience
So you are not an Indian but love Indian culture and like to watch Bollywood movies. Also you want to be a successful YouTuber while
turning your passion or hobby into something productive. So here is a great opportunity for all people living outside of India and who are not Indians. You might have seen a lot of reaction channels blooming on YouTube recently especially reaction to Indian Content. This genre has made many of the reactors quite famous and at least served as an additional source of income for them if not made them super rich.
So what is this genre and what makes it less competitive (Though competition is increasing with every passing second ) than other video content genres on YouTube. Well, we are here to tell you about a blooming community of reactors ( especially Foreign Reactors) who are gaining more subs and getting more views than their average non-reaction content creator counterparts. And this all is accomplished by just making reaction videos and we are not talking about professional reviewing of content or a professional critic review video, we are talking about simple watching of videos, songs and other funny comedy videos and then sharing what and how much you grabbed out of it, what you found most intriguing or what you loved about it and what you want to know about it which you didn’t understand. Yes, just this and you will get more views than any other video of yours which you have uploaded so far and may even earn a few hundred subscribers by posting your first video alone. Let’s Start-
What ?
So we are talking about making reaction videos on Indian Content- it can be Bollywood or Tollywood ( yes there are other film industries in India) or any other local language film industry of India or political videos about various issues and current affairs going on in India or Videos from various Indian YouTube web-series channels or content related to local music or even an Indian advertisement . The list of topics on which you can make videos is unending, above are just few examples to get you started. So bottom line is your reaction can be on any topic or any video, all you need to remember is “Your Video Must Be One or the Other Way Connected To India”.Why?
A simple question which comes to many minds is – How suddenly reacting to Indian Content became a thing ? Well , You deserve an answer from an Indian himself who is great fan of foreign reaction videos. So as you know India is a Country of 1.30 Billion (yes you heard it right ) people and these 1.30 billion people started using Internet in mass numbers just as back as 3 years ago. So in 2016 , 4G technology was introduced in India by Jio ( a telecom operator company owned by richest man of India ) not only that main thing is data service was offered absolutely free for next 1 year by this operator. Can you believe ? People enjoyed 1.5 Gb of free high speed mobile data, free calling and free SMS for next one year by just purchasing a JIO SIM card for their smartphones. This disrupted Indian telecom market in a manner never seen before , rest all competitors in market were clean swiped by JIO within few months. In response to huge losses which other companies were in , they were forced to reduce their 4G data charges as well to survive . A war broke out in Indian Telecom sector and consumers were the biggest gainers. Companies were offering high speed internet data at dirt cheap prices. So what do you think what had been the possible outcome ? Well, Indian smartphone market flourished and number of internet users in country grew exponentially. With this huge internet user tsunami came great demand for online content and YouTubing became a thing in India resulting in taking many local content creators from Rags to Ritchie's. This growth has still not reached its saturation level and thousands of Indians are joining internet every day.
How ?
So Indians are craving for new content which could satisfy them and you are going to fulfil that need. As you know India is a middle lower income country in terms of per capita GDP means it’s definitely not rich if we see individual income of each citizen of that country. This is a clear reason for the fact that only 1.25% of Indian population travelled outside of their country in year 2015. Nearly 98% Indians has never set foot outside of their country. But due to globalization Indians are not untouched by western influence, with nearly 65% of its population below the age of 35 year , India is the most young major country on this planet. And young minds are impressionable , these young minds are greatly influenced by American and European Cultures which they have seen in TV , newspaper or through Hollywood movies. Mass Media has played an important role in making Indian citizens aware of their contemporary world and what is happening in Western hemisphere. You can imagine the western influence on them by considering the fact that most urban Indian kids grew up watching either American or Japanese cartoons until recently when an Indian company started making its own cartoon shows. So seeing America, Europe and Western Societies continuously on TV, in Films and Advertisements made them curious about the Nordic race and the American Culture. This resulted in an urge to explore Western World by not going there instead by making online connections with people of developed nations. Well , thanks to its colonial past many people ( you can understand how many people does ‘many people’ in India means! ) in India know English and teaching & learning English is given very much importance in schools. In fact , the elite and middle class of Indian population send their kids to English Medium Schools only. English is given very much importance as higher studies in any subject requires knowledge of English to understand the science given to the world by America and UK , besides that MNC’s ( Multinational Corporations ) hire only those individuals in India who have excellent English speaking skills and since they offer a much higher pay than local companies, an average Indian parent dreams of their child working in an MNC. All this makes India second largest English speaking nation after US in the whole world. ( Yes , you heard it right! ).
What for you ?
Here is the deal , you now know the desperateness of Indian Audience to interact with the western world with the power of English. And you are gonna part of it. Rules are simple “You Know them , they’ll make you Known”. Everyone feels excited to see their cultural influence on others or when some foreigner tries to understand their life-style, way of living and view of life.
Same is the deal with Indians. They want to see how you react to their language, clothes, festivals , religion , beauty , cuisine and most important dance. Because they know a lot about you ( I mean western society ) and you know nothing about them, this gap is a great opportunity for you to pick up your camera and make a good reaction video on any Indian Content and don’t stop there make some few more and wait for the miracle. I can guarantee you at least 100 views on the first day of upload.
Secrets cum Tips to succeed in this genre
Learn English: Very important or you should say it will matter 70-80% in your whole journey, you should know English and create videos in English because Indians know English not Japanese or German Or French. You can tap as much as possible audience only if you create videos in English. But don’t be dishearten as you can always add English subtitles in your videos but then make your content of the quality such that people come to your channel to watch your videos even if they have to read in order to understand what you are saying.
Besides you need English to understand Indian Content as most of them provides English subtitles only.
Here is a link of a Korean channel which uploads Indian reaction videos in Korean with English subtitles and have large view count on their videos.

Quality Content: Just don’t randomly pick any video on Indian content online and react to it , the video you are reacting to should be a well known content for example a movie song, a trailer , a web series , a comedy video from a well known Indian platform and you could even react to Indian Hindu prayers ( not tried by anyone yet ). But in order to react to some quality content proper precaution measures should be taken as you are using someone else’s content and you should always mention the source or original creator’s name in description of your videos through links. Some times this is not enough and you can still get a copyright strike and in that case your channel could also be blocked by YouTube. So always remember to choose only those videos which are open for reaction and doesn’t have any copyright issues. This might not affect you initially but as your channel starts getting more attention it will definitely pose a problem.
Be humble and attentive: Who doesn’t like a humble person and by attentiveness I mean being attentive to what is being shown and said in video you are reacting to. Remember after watching the video you need to tell your viewers about thoughts and impressions of video on your mind which would be good and much convincing only when you concentrate on video and listen carefully. Don’t worry about understanding it fully , you may not even understand a word of video but you tried is important. Your Indian friends are always there to help you in comment section and you get additional money for comments.
Respect other’s viewpoints and culture: You are definitely gonna get a huge cultural shock when you’ll react to Indian Content especially if you are from Western hemisphere of this planet as things are very much different in East and West. So whenever you don’t understand any practice, ritual or process shown in video , don’t judge it on the spot and share your thoughts. Try to understand things with perspective of other people also and humbly say that you don’t like or support such thoughts/practices or viewpoint but respect other person’s belief. Wikipedia and your audience are always there to tell you reason behind everything you want to know.
Remember Names of places and people: If you reacts to Bollywood songs for example try to learn more about the actors who performed in these videos , their other notable works and their best movies. When you react to a different video of the same actor and suppose you recognize him/her in front of camera , it leaves a good impression on the viewer that you are not a beginner and knows a lot about Bollywood. Similarly, before reviewing any movie or reacting to a trailer , it is best to research about the plot, actors, director ( and his/her previous works ) or any controversy related to the movie as it gives that professional touch to your video. You don’t have to worry about this point much. As you will further go deep in Indian content your knowledge of people and places of India will automatically increase. Bottom-line is just don’t act foolish in front of camera.
Editing and perfect intro : A perfect intro before starting the video is must in YouTube world. Make it as creative as possible such that it reflects your channel’s identity and your brand name.Next thing is proper editing of videos, well it is not necessary you can keep it original also but if you can do editing
then it is wonderful. Edit out unnecessary sections of your video and place some written jokes in between scenes or add sarcasm in writing.
Like, Share and Subscribe : Don’t forget to tell your audience to like and share your videos, don’t rely on your viewers to do so on their own because they are also humans and humans tend to forget things ( pun intended ). You can ask them various questions related to the video or any other topic and tell them to write answers in comment section. This will increase interaction between you and your targeted audience. Don’t forget to show some love to your favourite comment.
A Tip: Try not to give your reaction by speaking while you are watching the video , wait for video to finish or pause the video then share your response. I will still prefer first as most viewers not only come to know your reaction, many times they themselves are watching the video you’re gonna react to for the first time and when you pause the video again and again to give your reaction , it breaks the flow of your viewer as he/she is also watching the video alongside you which he hadn’t seen before. This may irritate them ( myself included ) which is not good for your channel. “first finish the video then speak! ”
