Life Lessons From 20 Sanskrit Shlokas
Sanskrit is an ancient Indian language and according to the Hindu beliefs it is the divine language of devas (gods) also.

The most important works of Indian Philosophy are written in Sanskrit including the great Vedas, Upanishads and Bhagvada Geeta. Sanskrit is also one of the most difficult languages in the world to master. Sanskrit also has one of the largest pool of vocabulary having words for nearly everything in this world.
Despite being such an old language , Sanskrit is ranked at number 1 spot for usage in computer programs. Sanskrit also has one of the largest collection of single word sentences. This quality of Sanskrit enables a Sanskrit scholar to write things in just two or three sentences which would take a whole paragraph in other modern languages.
Now we have made you familiar with the divine language Sanskrit , let’s move towards Shlokas . Shlokas are short poetic verses written in Sanskrit, which have a deep philosophical meaning or a practical well tested real world life advice or truth hidden in them. Here we are writing '20' such powerful shlokas with their meanings, hoping they will have a deep impact on your intellect and help you in making your life more meaningful and morally better:
You have the right to work, but never to its fruits.
Let not the fruits of action be your motive,
nor let your attachment be the cause of inaction.
Rain over an ocean is meaningless,
meaningless is feeding a well fed person,
charity to a rich person is meaningless,
meaningless is lighting a lamp in daylight.
The way gold’s purity is tested
by rubbing, cutting, heating and pounding,
similarly, a person’s qualities are tested
by gentleness, manners, habits and deeds.
There is no official coronation ceremony held to
declare lion the king of jungle. He becomes the king by
his own attributes and heroic actions. Similarly, a person
can achieve a position above others with his virtues and efforts.
Knowledge brings humility; from humility comes worthiness;
with worthiness one attains wealth; with wealth one is
able to perform his duties in a better way; and in
performing his duties one attains happiness.
The one who is lazy and doesn’t put in efforts
is unable to acquire knowledge. Wealth doesn’t come to
the one without knowledge and qualification.
In such bad times, one cannot make good friends
and happiness is far away from him.
Without rigorous efforts nothing can be accomplished.
Just like a deer doesn’t enter a lion’s mouth on its own,
without him going for a hunt.
Those with a narrow thinking have two different outlooks
towards common matters relating to themselves and others.
For those who are magnanimous and noble,
the entire world is like a family, and their approach
towards all matters is uniform.
विद्याधनं सर्वधनप्रधानम ||
Education is the best wealth among all. No one can steal it,
no state can snatch it . It cannot be divided among the brothers
and it’s not heavy to carry. As one consumes or spends, it increases; as one shares, it expands.
A human without knowledge, respect for elders,
charity, wisdom, good conduct, virtues and unaware
of his duties, is a burden to the earth. He is equal to an
animal grazing in the form of a human.
One never knows what will happen to tomorrow.
Therefore, wise men should do tomorrow’s task today itself.
Just like the trees laden with fruits, learned people are always polite towards other. On the other hand a dried wood and a foolish are always rigid and unwieldy.
There is no self-purifying process equal to attaining peace of mind, and no bliss equal to being satisfied over one’s lot. There is no disease bigger than excessive desire and craving for any worldly thing and no tenet or religion greater than the kindness towards all living beings.
One must always be prepared for the worst situation.
It is too late to show concern and take remedial steps
after facing a calamity. Just like it is futile to dig a well when the house is already on fire.

Providing food to poor and needy persons is the best
charitable deed, but making people learned by teaching them
is the supreme form of charity. Food gives momentary satisfaction, but the knowledge will empower them to lead a satisfactory life.
An affluent and rich person is adorned if he is kind,
a powerful person by control over his speech.
A learned person is adorned by his peace of mind,
humbleness adorns a noble man, and the money spent
is appreciated if it is for a worthy cause.
While preaching others, people behave like they are
the ideal. But when their own job is at hand they forget
about the gentlemanly behaviour they had earlier preached.
The sun looks alike while rising and setting.
Similarly, a virtuous person’s attitude and
behaviour remains the same whether it is
prosperity or adversity.
A fool is honoured in his own house, a landlord
is honoured in his own village , a king is honoured
in his own country and a scholar is honoured everywhere.
